Stephen King-A Review Of His Book-On Writing

I have read a good number of books in my lifetime, but I have found few that have entertained and fascinated me as much as "on writing-a memoir of the craft." This book published circa 2000 by Stephen King is an excellent tool that all writers should not be without. Whether your a novice or the seasoned professional, this book should be added to the writers bookshelf. It is definitely a must read for the up and coming writer. Stephen King is without a doubt the master of horror novels and similar genre; but in his book, on writing he also highlights some important information about the craft, that all writers can only benefit from. And he accomplishes this, not only in an understandable and commanding tone, but also one that adds a twist of humor to it as well.

Books from authors like Nelson Demille, James Patterson and James Cameron, are the works ethat I usually find myself reading to help pass the time by, during a long cold winters day. It's not that I do not enjoy Stephen King as a person or author, because I do. In fact he is not only a very interesting and humorous individual, as you will see after your read his book. But also one that had a somewhat tough upbringing with his younger brother. These facts are also touched upon within-"On writing-a memoir of the craft" Stephen King certainly gives the reader two-hundred and eighty pages of eyeball-gluing pages. He adds a bit of a biographical background about his younger years and how he moved around a lot with his folks, causing a somewhat disrupted and uprooted childhood. And as briefly mentioned Mr. King ties it all in with humor and excellent writing tips. In fact I never knew Stephen King to be a humorous individual. When I started thumbing through the first two or three pages of this book, it was difficult to hold back a chuckle.

This is one non-fiction book, that you must pick-up. Sure go ahead and read...Full Dark No Stars-the Langoliers, the girl who loved Tom Gordon and Bag of Bones, which is my favorite aside from on writing. These fictional works from Stephen King are also worth the reading, even if you're not a Stephen King fan. To add I am not really a fan either, basically because I honestly do not enjoy many horror stories written today, or find them to be very entertaining. But as the old saying goes..."Whatever floats your boat", or "To each his own!"

There are many other types of fiction out there, that each and everyone will have a preference for. Bag of Bones on the other hand, was what I call a low profile horror story if you will. Or lets put it this way-what I call the mild-mannered, romantic ghost story. So while its now fresh on your mind, do yourself a favor-go online and download a copy of on writing and refer to it from time to time. Pick it up while you are suffering from writers block, or simply just short on words. I recently downloaded it into a PDF format file, than transferred it over to my nook study reader, courtesy of Barnes and Noble. Nook study and Kindle are downloadable digital ereaders that can be downloaded to the desktop of your pc.

These digital e-readers will enhance your reading experience of this and other books. Overall, it will make your reading experience a more enjoyable one. And believe it or not, this modern technology will not cost you a cent for downloading it onto your computer. However nothing compares to having the real mckoy either in hard or soft cover edition, nestled upon your lap. Lets face it, all of us here on Hubpages share one thing in common and that's writing. Whether it's writing romantic stories, poetry, self-help, or about medical related topics.
