Science Fiction Movies like the original black and white version of- "It The Terror From Beyond Space." Are a few of the very classic examples of movies during that time era that are very hard to match up to, even compared to today's standards.

The early mid to late fifties brought along with this era, many a popular black and white; as well as a few noteworthy colored science fiction movies. Recently I was browsing through a collection online that some may recall. Many of us may still be familiar with those almost irreplaceable classics like; the John Carpenter's original black and white version of the Thing, with James Arness (Gunsmoke) playing the part of the giant carrot life form. To add to this list were The Angry Red Planet, The Blob, The day the earth stood still and this Island earth for example. But there was still one very special fogotten one, that I remember seeing on late-nite television a few years back. This black and white sci. fy movie that I am referring to is "It The Terror From Beyond Space." This was truly one well-made Science Fiction horror classic straight from mars. I mainly found this to be the case, based upon the special effects that were accessible to film crews to work with during the fifties.

It the terror from outter space was also one of those movies that you had to watch; with the lights turned completely off and with no other distractions around to interrupt you. Especially if you wanted to get a sense of being with the crew within that spacecraft. To add the music within this movie, was just as eerie as the movie itself. And yes, just as was found to be true with "The Day The Earth Stood Still', there was a spacecraft travelling through space in-It the terror from beyond space, but minus the large metal robot, that was one of the main characters of that popular sci. fy movie.

A few of you who also enjoy watching a good edge of your seat type science fiction flick, may better remember-"It The Terror From Beyond Space, by associating this movie with one of its lead actors, Marshall Thompson. This actor also played in, for those of you who remember, Daktari...an older television show about a rather large cross-eyed Lion by the name of Clarence. You may also remember Marshall Thompson as one of the more well-known actors in-"It the terror from beyond space.

This particular movie given its age also depicts rather well what it would be like travelling through space to the fourth planet from our sun. It is so convincing as you watch the sleek white spacecraft with its crew intact, travel through the darkness of outter space. It is one of the very few movies of its era, that really captures the lonlieness and hostility of an alien world. And what makes it even more suspenseful to add, is the fact that there is "It", That Alien life form, that during a martian dust storm happens to wander onto the spacecraft, before it lifts off for its voyage back to planet earth.

When I eventually came across the DVD version of this movie on Amazon.com I couldn't help to notice, how familiar the creature on the movie jacket looked; compared to the creature from the black lagoon. For those of you who are also familiar with this science fiction horror classic, you may recall that the creature from the black lagoon, has an uncanny resemblance to the creature in-It the terror from beyond space. However I think the only difference, is that the creature from the black lagoon, was just a bit more modified, or ahead of its time, than (It) was. If you do get a chance to watch the black and white version, you will also notice that the creature, "It" appears to be doing a bit more monstrous growling and smashing up of the galactic furniture within that spaceship so to speak, than the creature from the black lagoon actually did, on land or in the water.

I do not want to totally give "It the terror from outter space" away to some of you science fiction movie buffs out there. So instead I will give my readers the option to experience the sheer terror that they will without a doubt, experience as (IT) goes on a rampage within that earthbound spaceship with Marshall Thompson and crew all aboard fighting for their lives. In addition you can also download this classic sci.fy movie online at amazon, for about $3.00. It is much cheaper than having to pay for a new DVD, which starts out anywhere from $10.00 to $14.00 or so.

I have also included some Black and White video footage of "it the terror from beyond space" below, courtesy of Youtube; for those of you whose heart is strong enough to bare a good scare. But just don't rely totally upon this four minute video trailer to fully understand what the movie entails. To do that, I recommend that you watch it from the very beginning to the end, to understand the whole movie. It may first appear to be somewhat of a low budget horror movie at that. But you will soon realize that as you watch an hour or so, this movie could indeed really scare the dickens out of you. So grab a bag of popcorn, shut off the lights and enjoy a real spooky sci.fy movie.

IT! is a great movie that set the stage for later classics like Ridley Scott's Alien. People forget that B-movie plots and ideas of the past have gone on to influence and even become the A-List films of today.

This is fun, JL. I grew up watching a lot of these 1950's era films in technocolor or gritty black and white. While not Industrial Light and Magic quality, they were a lot of fun. I still like Bela Lagosi's final film "Plan Nine from Outer Space" (1956), known as the campiest science fiction film made. Kudos goes to "War of the Worlds" and "Forbidden Planet" Thanks Cred2
